'Take opportunities as they arise and go for it'
Rebecca was working in fashion when she noticed an exciting job ad - she applied for a role with Salmat for Medibank, taking inbound customer calls. Rebecca really enjoyed this role and in particular the culture of the Salmat Contact Centres. This was 2002 and Rebecca is now a senior manager within the IT team. From a Contact Centre Agent, to a Team Leader, to a Project Manager, Contact Centre Manager, Operations Manager, Service Delivery Manager to finally IT. What an exciting career to have with one company!
This week Rebecca delivered 8 projects and 4 new Contact Centres, all successfully launched from an IT perspective. And Rebecca loves the fast pace and still finds time for a family, golf, swimming and most importantly her kids.
Rebecca's advice as a team and project manager is to know how to get what you want out of people. Know who does what well and value them for it. It is all about relationships management and knowing how to get the best out of a person – fostering a work environment where people want to come to work every day. You will be lucky if you work in Rebecca's team!
And this is not the end of Rebecca's career at Salmat – she wants to continue progressing in IT. Her tip is – "Apply yourself, take opportunities as they arise and go for it!"
