'plenty of opportunities for career growth'
Kate is an Account Director within the Salmat Digital business. Growing up Kate wanted to be a teacher, but her ideas changed when she went to high school. At the end of high school Kate was still undecided about what she wanted to do, but knew she wanted to go to university and study Business. During the first year of study Kate decided on Marketing and Accounting as her majors and it was while she was still studying that her brother referred her for a position at Salmat - and the job was hers! In 2005 Kate commenced her career with Salmat as an Account Coordinator within the Targeted Media Solutions Letterbox division at Moorebank in Sydney. Kate was then promoted to a Senior Account Coordinator, followed by an Account Manager's role. By the end of 2008 Kate was swiftly promoted to a Senior Account Manager position, by which stage she had finished her university degree and interviewed for a role in the Digital division in 2009.
Kate works for Salmat because of the people – Salmat puts a lot of emphasis on their employees, ensuring employees are enjoying their work. She also loves the opportunity for career progression - Salmat make sure their employees are able to grow their career in the right direction, providing them with all the necessary training and skills. Kate's advice would be to "keep your eyes open for opportunities, as there are a lot of them within Salmat. Talk to people who might be able to guide you in the right direction".
Kate believes that to be successful in her role you need to have excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders. You have to be flexible enough to be able to adapt to different things and situations. You also require excellent customer service skills. In Kate's role everyday is different which she loves, but the consistent parts of her role involve:
- Responding to client requests and liaising with different teams internally to deliver the outcomes
- Putting together proposals for clients
- Meeting with clients face to face – which sometimes involves travelling interstate
- She also tries to squeeze in a little bit of exercise each day!
Kate loves working with people at Salmat and that every day is different with new challenges and tasks. Kate feels that her biggest milestone has been moving into the Digital division and taking on her current role. "I had to step out of my comfort zone because it was completely different environment and services that I would be managing." Kate would love to progress and grow with the Digital division and sees herself one day as part of the management team. "Salmat is great organisation. The people are fantastic and there are plenty of opportunities for career growth and progression".
